At the Weyarn New Year's reception, Mayor Leonhard Wöhr thanks committed citizens who work for the community.

Weyarn - "You are the supporting foundation of our community." With these words, Weyarn's Mayor Leonhard Wöhr addressed the around 150 invited guests at the New Year's reception in the auditorium of the elementary school on Friday.

Representatives from business and politics, including the mayors of the neighboring communities and CSU member of parliament Alexander Radwan, as well as representatives from the police and schools, came, but above all active members from clubs, working groups and other institutions in the monastery community.

Because that's what the day was all about: people who volunteer for the community.

Wöhr presented the first bouquet of flowers to the "landlady" Kerstin Klose, acting headmistress of the elementary school.

There was no official inauguration, reminded Wöhr, this should make up for the welcome.

"I hope you feel comfortable with us and stay with us."

In his speech, the mayor addressed the changes in society with thought-provoking facts.

Internet and social media now offer opportunities to spread even abstruse untruths without effort, but with a wide reach, he found.

"What is it that can make people believe even the most improbable things?" Wöhr asked, calling for a critical attitude in an "unmistakable jungle of diversity of opinion".

His appeal to the guests: not to be divided by anonymous theses.

"Because many unknown authors would have already achieved their goal with that." The better way is: "Wipe less, talk more to each other." In his bridging on the occasion of the New Year's reception, Wöhr made it clear that

that those present also lay the foundation for a functioning community life in terms of dealing with each other.

“They communicate and contribute to a better society through their positive role model and altruistic example.

It wouldn't work without you, I dare say.” The variety of areas of life in which the volunteers are involved underscores the mayor's assessment.

The guests here would only represent part of the volunteer work, said Wöhr and asked that the thanks of the community be passed on to those who were not present.

In addition to municipal councils, employees in the town hall, speakers and representatives, this applied in particular to the clubs.

Wöhr also spoke about how much the corona pandemic had prevented for two years.

"Nevertheless, you didn't let yourself be discouraged," he said, praising the efforts to keep club life going.

When public life was finally able to start again, "it all happened in quick succession".

The boys had made the prelude to many festivals that followed, he recalled.

"My compliments to you, too, for getting things back on track so quickly."

Wöhr also went into some "changes of staff" in the past two years.

He thanked the sponsors who support the work of the associations financially, as well as the spouses and families who support the voluntary work in the background.

He finally thanked a number of citizens by presenting medals and belt clasps (report will follow), before the cozy part of the reception continued with musical entertainment from the Probst band.
