The deans of law faculties in universities and colleges published today (Sunday) an opinion against Minister Levin's reform.
Among other things, the deans seek to warn of real threats to the democratic and inclusive nature of the State of Israel and the fundamental principles of its legal system.
"It appears that the new government wants to make a radical change in the constitutional structure of the State of Israel and its legal system. This, in a way that would remove from the government and introduce important mechanisms of balance, control and audit, which are required and exist in any democratic country that operates according to the principles of the separation of powers. This radical change may harm In each and every one of us," the statement reads.

"Implementation of the proposals could turn Israel into a country where there is in fact a unified government - since the Knesset and the government are controlled by the coalition anyway. The far-reaching proposals could push aside the value of equality, seriously damage the protection of minorities and the individual, and seriously reduce the critical independence of the judicial system ".
"Unlawful discrimination"
The deans express their concern regarding the weight of the coalition agreements on state laws.
"Various components of the coalition agreements, and their cumulative weight, and bills that have already been submitted, raise serious concerns that these changes will allow for improper discrimination and exclusion against various groups, including people who are not citizens of the state (even though they are subject to its control), and disproportionately favor the Jewish religion at the expense of Recognition of the religious and social diversity in the country."
