It's probably a survival thing, women want a man who can protect them, and big and scary sizes will usually do the trick.
And when we say BIG, this is exactly what we mean.

This is the smaller and softer brother of the BIG BOY.
These are men of normal size+, those who are over 1.80, but mostly those who used to maintain their weight and went to the gym, but loosened the reins a bit and put on a few kilos on top of those muscles.
No, this is not a man with a belly that spills out beyond the belt, but one who is more busy with his daily life and his family and does not bother all day with what he eats and how he looks.
