(ANSA) - PORTICI, 09 JAN - "A century and a half of history bear witness to the scientific value of this cultural institution".
This was stated by the president of the Campania Region Vincenzo De Luca at the 150th anniversary ceremony of the Department of Agriculture of the University of Naples Federico II in the Royal Palace of Portici (Naples).
"Agricultural research and the Faculty of Agriculture itself experienced difficult times starting in the 1970s when it seemed that issues related to agriculture and agro-industry were marginal issues. Then the events of the last few months and years have somehow restored centrality to the issues of food autonomy of individual countries. We have seen the story of wheat on the occasion of the war in Ukraine.
Italy has almost dismantled its research centers during these decades.
We must regain a role and the Department of Agriculture, together with other universities, can play a very important role". (ANSA).
