At the La Tanière refuge, it's time for holidays and animal vaccinations

2023-01-09T11:37:03.536Z

Even closed to the public, La Tanière, in Nogent-le-Phaye (Eure-et-Loir), continues to live. Until January 17 inclusive, no visitor can ar

At La Tanière zoo-refuge, in Nogent-le-Phaye (Eure-et-Loir), the car park is empty, the paths are very peaceful.

“Hello”, says Hello, one of the parrots so named for obvious reasons.

Even without any visitors to answer him – the sanctuary will not reopen until January 18, only on Wednesdays and Saturdays, until February 3 – the exotic bird therefore remains polite.

With his ninety-seven other congeners, including two new arrivals, two Harris buzzards, they have all just received their second dose of vaccine.

"The show never stops here," smiles Patrick Violas, the sanctuary's founder.

We must continue to take care of the animals.

“About ninety people pamper the 650 or so boarders with eventful liabilities.

“We take the opportunity to do everything we need, such as vaccinations for example.

This year, all birds received two shots against avian flu.

“The smaller it is, the more complicated it is to vaccinate.

Large animals, it's simpler, we throw an arrow at them to put them to sleep when we can't catch them.

Small birds are something else, ”says the manager.

Works all year round depending on the animals that arrive

The felines, tested throughout the year against the Covid, all also received their bite, like the horses and some donkeys.

It had been done last year for camels and primates.

“But we dewormed them all, especially the herbivores.

Each year, they have the right to do so four times,” he specifies.

The absence of the public is also an opportunity to undertake embellishment work.

"It's a big clean-up operation.

Anyway, here, the work continues all year round, because we build according to the animals that arrive.

“Within a good month, the enclosure for eight panthers should, for example, be finished.

The reception of the public will also be redesigned.

Last year, the park welcomed 150,000 visitors.

The park, which welcomed 150,000 people last year, also says it is seeking donations of plants, plants and shrubs to plant, including Christmas trees, but only in pots.

Between two calls, Patrick Violas lets go of his lips that an international rescue is coming, “the most important in the world if it happens”.

The enthusiast did not want to speak further on the subject.

“The two countries are currently discussing.
