Benediktbeurer Carnival firmly in Rieder hands

As the "Riadara Trio" they will reign over the Benediktbeurer carnival this season: The royal couple Anna Walser and Marinus Rieger with their courtier Hansi Mürnseer.

After two years of the pandemic, they are expecting a particularly large number of enthusiastic visitors this year.

Benediktbeuern/Ried – It has been written on the beer coaster for several years.

Because at some point in the Tutzinger Hütte, Marinus Rieger promised members of the “Beira Mashkara” club in writing on a beer mat that he would make carnival prince one day.

Sometime.

And this sometime had come last autumn.

Suddenly the people in charge of the carnival club were standing at the door of the young agricultural machinery mechatronics technician from Ried and demanding that the promise made be fulfilled, as the 22-year-old recalls with a laugh.

"Nevertheless, they still had to do six hours of persuasion." Of course, Rieger couldn't stop.

After all, he had already promised in writing.

“We are a cool team”

Rieger knew immediately who his princess and Hofi should be: his two long-time friends Anna Walser and Hansi Mürnseer – both like him at home in the Kochl district of Ried, which is why they call themselves the “Riadara Trio” during the current carnival season.

Party mouse from the Riadara horizon” – because she is at home on the Pfisterberg – has been dancing in the Benediktbeurer Garde for about five years.

When her "Prince Marinus I. vo de Riadara Rally Legenden" (because he had already taken part in such a car race in Spain) asked her whether she wanted to rule in the "Beira Fasching" with the support of Hofi Hansi Mürnseer, she did said yes right away.

Because: "We're a cool team," she thought, remembers the 24-year-old, who works as a medical assistant.

Training with professional teachers

Since October, the prince and princess have been training twice a week for their waltz and show dance with the help of a professional dance teacher.

In addition, they meet alone to practice.

Rieger admits that he could not dance at all before he was chosen to be the carnival prince.

But now steps and turns worked quite well.

Shortly before their first public appearance at the dress rehearsal on Sunday, January 15, the nervousness of both sovereigns is slowly increasing.

"But that's okay," the prince said calmly.

"It's an honor to be able to do something like this," says Princess Anna.

"And fun too," adds her prince.

The anticipation is huge

After two years of the pandemic, both Highnesses and their Hofi hope that this year a particularly large number of carnival enthusiasts will come to the dress rehearsal and the balls and parties in the coming weeks.

Because last year the dress rehearsal was only allowed to take place behind closed doors, Walser recalls.

"We look forward to celebrating with many."
