The Geretsried fire brigade will remember some of the operations from 2022.
At the annual meeting, the commander looked back.
Geretsried – Extinguishing fires and securing accident sites are undoubtedly part of the core competence of the Geretsried volunteer fire brigade.
However, some seemingly bizarre missions require an even higher level of technical skill, as commander Erik Machowski reported at the annual meeting on Thursday evening.
Volunteer fire brigade Geretsried: Looking back at spectacular operations in 2022
On February 3, 2022, the emergency services received a call for help from students who had put on handcuffs and could not untie them.
After a trip to the north fire station on Elbestrasse, the firefighters managed to solve the problem with tools.
"There were no injuries, only the skin had to be cooled a little," Machowski summed up with a smile.
Of the 222 missions in total, he particularly remembers a serious traffic accident on the snow-covered B11 and the three bomb finds on Rotkehlchenweg.
Before the duds could be defused, the cooperation of the police, fire brigade and many other voluntary organizations was required.
"We couldn't have done it alone," the commander admitted.
The number of members at the Geretsried fire brigade has increased
Machowski was pleased to note that the number of members has increased from 89 in 2021 to 99 currently.
Of these, 70 men and nine women are active.
There are also lateral entrants such as Dennis Knoll, Jens Mättig, Antonio Papista, Hanna Schnell and Christoph Strauß, who have completed fire service training within a short time.
The well-attended open house on July 10 on Elbestrasse contributed to the positive public image.
Club chairman Florian Effenberger proudly referred to the increase in income and the high level of donations at this impressive exhibition.
"Only out of camaraderie and mutual understanding can such effective work as we do in the fire brigade for the service of others and for the general public," he praised the team spirit.
Praise the mayor and district fire council
Commander Machowski also thanked the full-time equipment attendants who look after two equipment sheds, 16 vehicles and three maintenance workshops.
This year it is again important to carry out training and performance tests.
These include, for example, fall protection, respiratory protection and training.
A total of 58 exercises are planned, compared to 53 in the previous year. Machowski named the switch from analogue to digital alarms and the tendering of new emergency fire engines as further challenges.

Mayor Michael Müller and District Fire Councilor Erich Zengerle thanked the emergency services.
"You are there to turn interpersonal relationships into positive energy," praised the mayor.
Zengerle emphasized that more and more young people are joining the fire brigade in Geretsried and in the district.
"That's very gratifying: keep it up!"
At the end of the annual meeting, commander Erik Machowski promoted Lisa Meindl to chief firefighter.
Alexander Eiban, Anatolia Jalba, Paul Kruse, Adrian Niemann, Andreas Rauwolf and Leon Rogmann can now call themselves firefighters.
