A deadly fire broke out at a unit on the 21st floor of Hing Cho House, Hing Tung Estate, Sai Wan Ho yesterday (8th). After the firefighters found a severely burnt corpse in the unit, the case was handed over to the first team of the Eastern District Serious Crime Squad for follow-up , is investigating whether the deceased was a male resident living alone at the above address.
It is understood that after investigation by the police, it was confirmed that the deceased was Zhang Qiu, a 51-year-old unemployed man who lived alone on the site and had the habit of smoking during his lifetime.
In February 2018, a fire broke out at the site. At that time, the ashtray caught fire. The deceased extinguished it by himself and then called the police. The preliminary investigation of the police believed that the deceased was smoking on the bed, which caused the fire. The case was not suspicious.
