The criminal, of Algerian nationality and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2011, made headlines by fleeing through the window of a room on the ground floor of the court in Regensburg, Bavaria.
Aged 40, he had been convicted of murder and robbery.
Extensive manhunt
The police immediately launched a vast manhunt, with appeals to the population.
