GAP - A 28-year-old from Munich fell fatally on Saturday, January 7, 2023, on the Jubilee ridge in the Wetterstein Mountains.
He was on the Jubilee Ridge with his 27-year-old companion and fell about 350 meters between the summit of the Zugspitze and the Inner Höllentalspitze.
Under the direction of the Munich II public prosecutor's office, the investigations into the course of the accident were taken up by the Alpine task force of the Oberbayern Süd police headquarters.
Late on Saturday morning (January 7, 2023, around 11:15 a.m.), a 28-year-old man and his 27-year-old companion were walking in wintry conditions on the Jubilee ridge from the Zugspitze summit in the direction of the Alpspitze.
Even before the inner Höllentalspitze at an altitude of about 2640 meters, the man fell over steep, rocky terrain on the north side of the Höllental.
The companion and other mountaineers who had joined made an emergency call, whereupon several emergency services from the Grainau mountain rescue service and a rescue helicopter rushed to the scene of the accident.
The emergency doctor of the rescue helicopter could only determine the death of the 28-year-old on site.
The companion was flown into the valley by the Grainau mountain rescue team with the help of a rescue helicopter and was cared for there by the mountain rescue team's crisis intervention team.
According to initial investigations on site by officials from the Alpine task force of the Oberbayern Süd police headquarters, the man probably committed a snowdrift at the crash site, which broke off due to the additional load and as a result fell around 350 meters into the depths.
The man died on the spot. Officials from the Alpine task force rescued the casualty using a police helicopter.
The climbers were experienced mountaineers and equipped accordingly for the tour.
The investigations into the course of the accident were taken over by officials from the Alpine task force of the Oberbayern Süd police headquarters under the direction of the Munich II public prosecutor's office.
