Improvement of winter crops in Homs

The rains witnessed in all regions of Homs recently contributed to improving the proportions of winter crops, especially wheat and barley, and the proportions of the area cultivated with irrigated and rain-fed wheat exceeded 100 percent.

The Director of Homs Agriculture, Eng. Younis Hamdan, confirmed in a statement to SANA that 18,312 hectares were cultivated with irrigated wheat, at a rate of 105 percent implementation, and 21,825 hectares were cultivated with rain-fed wheat, at a rate of 100 percent, while 38,071 hectares were cultivated with rain-fed barley, at a rate of 100 percent. Implementation of 99.7 percent, and the cultivation of 496 hectares of irrigated barley, with an implementation rate of 93.7 percent.

Hamdan attributed the increase in the proportion of areas cultivated with wheat to the rainfall, which encouraged farmers to cultivate their lands, pointing to the continuation of cultivation operations, with regard to wheat, barley and the rest of the winter crops.

It is noteworthy that the Directorate of Agriculture increased the planned area of ​​irrigated wheat for the current agricultural season by about 5 thousand hectares over the area that was planned during the last agricultural season, with the aim of obtaining abundant production of the strategic crop.
