With the initiative and organization of the Syrian Trust for Development and the Farmers Union in Hama Governorate, the first productive cooperative was established for pistachio farmers in the city of Morek to help them overcome obstacles facing their work and marketing their production.

The Syrian Trust for Development indicated in a post on its Facebook page that the decision to establish the cooperative was taken during a meeting with pistachio farmers and owners of shops marketing the crop in the city of Morek, explaining that the cooperative helps in enhancing development opportunities to meet the most urgent local needs of farmers, and contributes to the sustainability of Expanding pistachio cultivation as a crop that has its own agricultural specificity and economic value, not only for the people of the region, but also for the national economy.

The secretariat indicated that during the meeting, a temporary board of directors was elected for the cooperative, which will work in coordination with the relevant authorities to employ community resources in achieving greater value for this crop, since cooperatives are considered one of the means of organizing work and play an important role in creating job opportunities, improving food security, and increasing food security. gross domestic product.

The secretariat pointed out that the cooperative thought is the compass of purposeful agricultural work among the people of the region who are producers of the same agricultural varieties, especially in light of the need to unite efforts and invest opportunities to produce a qualitative product with specifications capable of making it exportable, and for this it is important to expand the creation of these cooperatives to include strategic crops. other.
