Sahyadri Farms impresses at first glance with its modern buildings and its neat alleys lined with flower beds.

The company, located in Nashik, in the state of Maharashtra, stands out in a very fragmented agricultural India, dominated by small and inefficient farms.

However, like many emerging and developing countries, agriculture is essential to the economy and employment.

It employs 43% of the officially active population, or 130 million registered peasants.

In this vast country, the world's leading producer of milk, wheat and tea, Sahyadri Farms is India's leading agricultural producer, in terms of the number of farmers and the volume of sales of fresh fruit.

They are 18,000, of which more than a third are shareholders.
