After a SPIEGEL revelation, Berlin's public prosecutor's office is examining corruption investigations into FDP leader Christian Lindner. His deputy doesn't like it at all: Wolfgang Kubicki railed against "personal injury".

In October, SPIEGEL reported on questionable real estate financing by Federal Finance Minister and FDP leader Christian Lindner.

Now the Berlin public prosecutor's office is dealing with the case - and FDP Vice Wolfgang Kubicki doesn't like it at all.

Kubicki sharply attacked the Berlin judiciary because of the reports on real estate financing and demanded consequences.

"The Berlin Senator for Justice should resign, but at least fire the Attorney General," Kubicki wrote in a statement.

"Reports that the Berlin Public Prosecutor's Office is examining the lifting of Christian Lindner's immunity in order to investigate the suspicion of a possible advantage name are an unparalleled lack of political character and a significant violation of personal rights, which must have personnel consequences."

Kubicki, who is also Vice President of the Bundestag, pointed out that it is not the public prosecutor's office that decides on the lifting of immunity, but only the German Bundestag.

In order to start investigations, there is no need for a separate lifting of immunity, only a notification to the President of the German Bundestag.

A waiver of immunity is only necessary if searches, arrests or indictments are in the room.

Kubicki explained: "This remarkable process shows once again that the Senate of Berlin is in the process of completely ruining the federal capital, both in fact and morally."

The traffic light coalition partners SPD and Greens also support Lindner – if only indirectly.

SPD leader Lars Klingbeil said he did not want to comment on the specific case.

"We work closely and trustingly with Mr. Lindner," he added.

Green leader Ricarda Lang dodged the question about the specific allegations, but when asked about Lindner and Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD), she emphasized that there were no reasons for a cabinet reshuffle.

The public prosecutor's office is currently examining whether to start an investigation.

The reason for the preliminary investigations was SPIEGEL's reporting on Lindner's real estate financing and his commitment to BBBank in October.

Lindner had rejected the allegations in connection with a loan for his private home purchase.

Lindner's lawyer Christian Schertz announced on Sunday: "Mr. Lindner started his private real estate financing long before he took over his ministry.

All conditions were always customary in the market.

Granting a short greeting on anniversaries such as the centenary of a bank is part of the normal conduct of a minister's office.«
