Traditional melodies from the Syrian Jazira mixed with youthful voices through a lyrical and musical line-up in the second season of the musical evening “Melodies from the North”, which was performed by a group of artists and the orchestra led by Maestro Nazih Asaad.
The evening, which was hosted by the Drama Theater at Dar Al-Assad for Culture and Arts, brought together melodies of multi-style songs from the spirit of the northern and eastern region of Syria, as it adopted melodies by some musicians belonging to various environments, in addition to songs from the Syriac, Armenian, Kurdish and Mardali heritage with
Showing some of the musical instruments inherent in that region, which are almost extinct, such as the sath, the tambour, the duduk, and percussive instruments such as the duhok.
The selected pieces of music were distributed harmoniously by academic Syrian musicians, in addition to Assaad, Kamal Skaiker, Moheeb Al-Maghribi, Bahgat Srour, and Sherko Dakouri.
The evening included traditional songs belonging to various Syrian cultures from the Syrian Jazira, such as the Mardali and Syriac heritage, presented by the artist Hovik Karbo from Qamishli, and from Aleppo, Maria Jijian presented the Armenian heritage, and Akram Nazi solo with the tambour instrument presented melodies from the heritage of Afrin, and Alan Murad presented melodies from the Kurdish heritage on Bouzouki solo performance.
Shedding light on the cultural identity of the Syrian Jazira region is the most important thing that distinguished the ceremony, according to Maestro Asaad, who told SANA: The Syrian singing heritage is an important case at the level of global culture, especially the heritage of the Jazira, as it is an extension of the ancient Arab civilizations that formed the starting point of global cultures, including Assyrian, Syriac, and others.
The supervisor and preparer of the concert, Idris Murad, also stated that “Alhanes from the North” in its second season was distinguished by the addition of lyrical tracks with an orchestral music distribution by distinguished authors.
