Prince Harry disguised himself as a Nazi in 2005.

As he reveals in his book "Spare", the scandal outfit was not just his idea.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are said to have persuaded him to do so.

Montecito – Instead of everyday life as a fairytale prince and dutiful heir to the throne, the life of Prince Harry (38) is more like a roller coaster ride.

In his younger years, Lady Di's son († 36) made a name for himself as a "scandal prince" and always found his way onto the front pages of the British gossip press with party excesses, love affairs and scandalous public appearances.

Since retiring as a full-time royal in February 2021, he has literally hung up the crown and settled in the US state of California with his sweetheart Meghan Markle (41) – thousands of kilometers from his country of birth.

Costume scandal is "one of his biggest mistakes": Prince Harry attended party disguised as a Nazi

Instead of escaping the stern gaze of the public in their sunny adopted home and spending their newfound freedom with Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1, Harry and Meghan have hatched a plan to tell their story to millions.

A six-hour documentary series on the Netflix streaming platform started in mid-December, and Harry's autobiography with the meaningful title "Spare" will be released on January 10th.

The controversial book project reviews the life of the Duke of Sussex in great detail and settles accounts with his family – especially with Prince William (40).

In addition to Harry's allegations that William hit him because of Meghan Markle, the palace dropout is also trying to clean up what is probably his biggest scandal.

Because in 2005 Prince Harry attended a costume party with his brother and his wife Kate Middleton (40) with the motto "natives and colonialists" – and slipped into a Nazi uniform.

Harry now regrets the incident, calling it "one of his biggest mistakes", but the swastika armband disguise caused a wave of horror and Britain's

Prince Harry's memoir "Spare" controversial even before it went on sale

On January 10, 2023, Prince Harry's memoirs "Spare" will be published by Random House - but these prove to be controversial even before publication.

Although the work is described as an honest look back at Harry's life and experiences, many royals pundits believe it could also be a harsh critique of British royalty.

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8th, 2022 and a resulting wave of public skepticism towards the British monarchy, this could have devastating consequences.

"The British Royal Family (...) must earn and keep the respect of the public," explains Royals author Valentine Low, "If this is ever damaged in any fundamental or permanent way, it could be very serious."

, but it was William and Kate who persuaded him to wear the costume at the time.

Not sure whether to dress up as a Nazi or as a pilot, Harry asked his brother and sister-in-law for advice.

"I called Willy and Kate and asked them what they thought," he recalls speaking to the royal couple. "They said 'Nazi uniform.'

They both roared with laughter.

'Worse than Willy's leotard outfit.

More silly!'

Which, again, was the point.”

A publishing insider told

that he was critical of Harry's decision to shift the costume scandal to William and Kate after 17 years.

"It's odd because you'd think Harry would just take responsibility, get on with his life and not drag his brother into it," the expert said sharply, "but he makes it clear that William's role in the scandal weighs heavily on his mind."

As these latest allegations and the other previously published excerpts from Harry's autobiography show, the already fragile relationship between the prince brothers is likely to get even more cracks with the release of "Spare".

Meanwhile, Harry also fired on his "evil stepmother" Camilla.
