New meeting place and even more: This is planned for 2023 in the municipality of Otterfing

End of the gravel desert: This year, the municipality is having Landkramer Platz converted into a meeting place with seating elements and fountains.

In 2023, Otterfing will have a new meeting place at Landkramer Platz.

However, only small steps can be expected for large-scale projects (sports facilities, multi-generational housing, wind power).

Otterfing

– A gravel desert, degraded to a parking lot: Landkramer Platz in the town center led a miserable existence for a long time.

This year the slumber ends.

"A parking lot is to become a community space," announces Mayor Michael Falkenhahn (SPD).

There are only parking spaces along Bahnhofstrasse and three opposite the pharmacy.

Seating groups and fountain elements should ensure quality of stay.

"A new meeting place for young and old," says Falkenhahn happily.

The total costs are estimated at around 450,000 euros, 188,000 euros have been promised from the EU's Leader funding pot.

The municipal council recently awarded the landscaping to an Ayingen company at a price of 283,000 euros.

No breakthroughs are to be expected this year in the major projects that have been accompanying the town hall for many years.

After all: The wind turbine project in the Hofoldinger Forest should gain momentum.

The approval process should start.

If concrete cost forecasts are available in the course of the year, the Otterfingers will find out how they can participate financially in the community wind turbine.

Otterfing wants to realize the small wind farm (three turbines) with the neighboring communities of Sauerlach and Aying.

The total cost is estimated at 21 million euros.

Construction is expected to start in 2024.

housing project

Most recently, the multi-generational housing project remained largely behind the scenes.

"Internal negotiations are under way," Falkenhahn hints, but doesn't want to go into detail.

First and foremost, it is about finding a suitable plot of land for the residential project, from which senior citizens, but also young families, should benefit.

The community-owned Thomawiese does not seem to be the only option.

Apparently, purchase talks are going on in the background.

"This year we should be clear about a location in the municipal council," says Falkenhahn.

It is also planned to ask again this year who would be interested in such a housing project.

sports facilities

The possible construction of new sports facilities is still a long way off.

According to Falkenhahn, the municipality is required to keep the old sports center on the Nordring, including Otterfinger Hof, usable: "We will invest a lot again in the maintenance." the mayor for little realistic: "I see no financial leeway for such a large investment." Financially, the municipality must "put the duty before the freestyle".

Otterfing 5000

Even if there have been hardly any significant jumps in population recently, Otterfing is scratching the 5000-inhabitant mark.

If the mark is broken before the next local elections in 2026, the number of local councilors will increase from 16 to 20. "Only primary residences count and we are currently at 4880," says the mayor.

He assumes that the 5000 mark will not be reached for another seven or eight years.

The community could see rapid growth if the 36 planned residential units are built on the former Preimesser site next to the railway line.

Since neighbors are opposed to the planning, the development plan will be subject to further approval rounds this year.

festivals and anniversaries

A very old and culturally significant building is celebrating its 500th anniversary in 2023: the St. Valentin church in Bergham was built in 1523.

This “round” is honored with a day of celebration on July 9th.

Already in May, the parish kindergarten looks back on its 50th anniversary.

Some “20-year-olds” are lined up for this.

The village festival, culture week and Challenge Cup – an integral part of the Otterfingen calendar today – have their roots in the 1000-year celebrations in 2003. It is easy to imagine that they will come up with special delicacies this year.

The change of year
