German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced on Monday January 9 that she had summoned the Iranian ambassador to Berlin "again" to protest against the recent execution of two men in connection with the demonstrations sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini.

The head of diplomacy intends "

to clearly indicate that the brutal repression, oppression and terror against the population, and the two recent executions will not remain without consequence

", she warned during a press conference in Berlin.

"Don't Close Your Eyes"

"

Even if the new year has unfortunately started as badly in Iran or Ukraine as the year before ended, it remains essential for us that this year the European Union continues to work closely and resolutely and above all in with full confidence and in full solidarity

,” added Annalena Baerbock during this joint conference with her Cypriot counterpart.

The important thing is "

not to close our eyes

" and "

not to resign ourselves

" but to always "

clearly say that we are on the side of people who want nothing more than to live in freedom and security like us

", she added.

On Twitter, Chancellor Olaf Scholz also denounced "

the use of the death penalty as a means of submission

" in Iran, deeming this way of acting "

horrible

".

We call on Iran not to carry out any more executions and to release all prisoners unjustly imprisoned

,” he added.

A decision shared by several countries

European countries such as Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands announced on Sunday January 8 that they were going to summon Iranian ambassadors to their respective countries, while new sanctions would be in preparation at European level.

Last Saturday, the Iranian justice announced the hanging of two men found guilty of having killed, on November 3 in the west of Tehran, a paramilitary during the demonstrations, arousing an international wave of indignation.

The EU imposed a third round of sanctions against Iran in mid-December in protest at the crackdown on protests since the death of Mahsa Amini on September 16, after her arrest by the vice squad.
