Rare natural spectacle: a double rainbow shines over Bavaria

On Monday afternoon, a wonderful natural spectacle happened in northern Bavaria - a double rainbow shone over Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

According to the DWD, the weather in Bavaria is like an "emotional roller coaster".

But at least it produces natural spectacles like this double rainbow.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber – The weather in Bavaria in early 2023 is not exactly wintry.

But there is pretty much everything between bright blue skies and heavy rain showers.

Good news for snow lovers in the mountains: in the coming days, the white shine is not too far away.

But even in the flatter regions, the wild change in weather has positive effects - in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, district of Ansbach, colorfully observed in the sky.

Double rainbow in Bavaria: Magnificent natural spectacle after rain

Gold, goblins, luck - there are numerous myths and legends about rainbows.

The fact is that the colorful natural spectacles are a beautiful sight.

Rainbows are considered to be atmospheric-optical phenomena that occur when the sun's rays hit raindrops in the air.

The human eye then only perceives the so-called spectral colors - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet -

true, which arise when the light breaks.

Rainbows therefore occur particularly frequently in rain and sunshine in the morning and evening, when the sun is low on the horizon and the angle of incidence on the rain curtain is ideal.

It is a particularly rare phenomenon when a double rainbow occurs.

This is what happened on Monday afternoon (9 January) in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, in northern Bavaria.

Weather in Bavaria remains changeable

While friends of wonderful natural spectacles in Rothenburg ob der Tauber can enjoy the double rainbow, people in the rest of Bavaria are more likely to frown at the weather in the Free State.

According to the meteorologist Guido Wolz from the German Weather Service (DWD), it will remain changeable into the coming week.
