Three Iranian citizens have been sentenced to death for their alleged involvement in the death of three members of the security forces during the protests across the country, the Iranian Student News Agency (ISNA) reported today (Monday).
Three others received a prison sentence.
According to the indictment, the six who were arrested are suspected of committing an act of terrorism, after they stole a policeman's weapon and shot dead "people and officers", and even injured several other security personnel.
Along with the death penalty for three detainees, the other three received a prison sentence of between 10 and 26 years.
Among those sentenced to 16 years in prison is the soccer player Amir Nasser-Azdani, who initially faced the death penalty but his sentence was commuted.

Despite the criticisms and condemnation notices, the government under the authority of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, known as "the executioner of Tehran", continues the harsh and deadly policy in an attempt to break the spirit of the demonstrators.
On Saturday, the regime executed two men allegedly convicted of killing a soldier during a demonstration in the country.
The demonstrations in the Islamic Republic began on September 16 after the death of Mehsa Amini, a 22-year-old young woman who was arrested by the regime's modesty police because she did not cover her upper body with the traditional hijab.
She later died in hospital as a result of the beatings she received.
According to human rights organizations Iran Humans Right Watch, at least 476 civilians have been killed, including 64 children and 34 women since the outbreak of anti-regime protests.
