South Korea's Ministry of Science warned today that a US satellite that has exhausted its purpose may fall on the Korean Peninsula and its adjacent areas, later in the day.
The Ministry of Science and Information Technology and Communications, according to Yonhap, said: "It is expected that the Earth's Radiation Budget satellite will fall to Earth this afternoon, and the Korean Peninsula is located within the areas where the satellite is likely to fall."
The ministry indicated that the majority of the satellite's parts will burn up upon its return to the atmosphere, but it asked the Koreans to remain cautious about some components that are likely to reach the Earth's surface.
The Earth Radiation Budget (ARBS) satellite was launched in 1984 on a decades-long mission to study how the Earth absorbs and radiates energy from the sun.
