Tesla driver only wants one thing: sell his car

Tesla and Elon Musk: They inevitably belong together.
With each new escapade of the boss, the image suffers more.
But getting rid of your own Tesla is not easy.
Cologne – Four years ago the world looked different for Thomas Feltges (name changed).
Back then, in 2019, he was looking forward to a new car.
No, on a promise.
Tesla Model X, new price at that time: 130,000 euros.
Anyone who bought Tesla also got an image: innovative, progressive and, as a vehicle, part of the legendary tech scene.
"The Tesla was and is an attractive car," says Feltges on the phone today.
"The screens and the wing doors are impressive." Nevertheless, he only wants one thing: to sell.
Many Tesla owners feel like him.
Surveys show that the brand's reputation is getting worse.

Almost half said CEO Elon Musk's recent behavior has clearly turned their attitude toward Tesla negative.
Around 69 percent of those surveyed rated Tesla as very unsympathetic.
Tesla disappointed on the trading floor
The situation on the stock exchange shows that these are not just snapshots.
The year 2023 started with a setback for the US company: after disappointing delivery figures, Tesla slipped 12.2 percent to bring up the rear in the Nasdaq 100 technology index.
In the last quarter of 2022, Tesla delivered 405,278 vehicles worldwide.
However, experts had expected an average of around 421,000 deliveries,
According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority, 38,458 Teslas were sold in Germany between January and September.
That is 48 percent more than in the same period last year.
However, Musk really got going in terms of scandals in the last quarter of 2022.
Tesla owner Feltges is also noticing how bad things are for the company.
He is the managing director of a medium-sized company.
Feltges wants to sell his car, but that could get complicated.
The portal "Wir-kaufen-deinen-Tesla" announces on its homepage: Inquiries will only be accepted again from the second quarter.
Feltges hasn't put his car online yet.
The well-known website “wirkaufendeinauto.de” is out of the question for him.
"They don't buy Teslas anymore," says Feltges.

How high is the demand at the moment?
The spokeswoman declined to comment on this.
The reasons for the decline are homemade, says Feltges.
"It annoys me that Tesla patronizes its customers."
What he means by that: How a Tesla is equipped is primarily determined by Tesla, not the customer.
"If a smaller font is announced in the menu or radar is deactivated, then the customer will find it easy," says Feltges.
The hardware can be modified.
It's more difficult with the image.
Who wants to represent a very rich narcissist or a defiant teenager, some ask.
Musk is a genius, others say.
Feltges is in the middle, although he's clearly been moving in one direction in recent months.

“Musk is very selfish.
His recent escapades remind me of my youth playing 'Sim City' on the computer.
The difference is: the guy does it in reality,” says Feltges, who lives in Berlin and closely follows developments at the nearby factory in Grünheide.
“He stands there in all seriousness and negates the water shortage.
There would be trees, as if that were proof to the contrary.
I sometimes see parallels to Donald Trump." Musk's behavior was the straw that broke the camel's back.
He's not the only one.
"A friend of mine says very clearly: Because of Elon Musk, he would no longer buy a Tesla," says Feltges.

Energy prices are exploding, supply chains are collapsing, the economy is faltering.
This dampens demand, but the supply in the electric car market is also declining.
If you want to buy a new electric model, you have to be prepared for months of waiting.
"That's why I'm convinced that I'll get rid of my Tesla quickly," says Feltges.
Selling fast is one thing.
The more crucial question is: at what price?
Feltges hopes for 90,000 euros.
Selling your Tesla is out of the question for die-hard fans.
Feltges is not one of them: "I was never a Tesla fanboy, I also expressed critical opinions in forums.
You get slapped down straight away.”
But there are cracks in the community.
Anyone who clicks through the Tesla forums will still read a lot of praise, admiration and justifications for Musk, but also comments like this: “I drive past the plant in Grünheide several times a week.
