Bad Wiessee – a single construction site.

Something like this is often etched about the many major projects on the western shore of Tegernsee.

But Mayor Robert Kühn (SPD) is convinced: It is the beginning of a "completely new era for the municipality of Bad Wiessee".

Bad Wiessee

– The stately new day care center near the primary school, the demolition of the bathing park, the new residential buildings on Hagngasse and last but not least the extensive renovation of the Gasthof Zur Post: just the number of projects that the community has tackled itself or will soon do wants to get going is considerable.

In addition, there are many private construction projects such as the Strüngmann Hotel on the lake shore or the new town center with its apartments and local suppliers, to name just a few.

For Mayor Kühn, all of these projects are symbolic of the start of a new era.

"I hope that this will also become visible soon," he says, primarily focusing on the projects of private investors.

It is not uncommon for the community to move too slowly.

Planning for Gasthof Zur Post is underway

As far as municipal measures are concerned, in most cases there is a concrete direction.

Example Gasthof Post: The community-owned and now empty community center is to be modernized - presumably a partial demolition will also be necessary.

"The building fabric will be examined over the winter," says Kühn.

Only then can the municipality say what exactly is possible on the site.

"But the planners are already working in the background."

Bad Wiessee would also like to make progress with the creation of affordable housing.

The municipal company (KU) will replace the two dilapidated residential buildings in Hagngasse with two larger new buildings.

"The demolition will begin in the spring," reports the town hall boss.

Work on the new building project should then start quickly.

Kühn is proud: the KU will then have almost 200 apartments throughout Wiessee.

Badepark property is reserved for a swimming pool

A plot of land has become vacant elsewhere in the community.

The old bathing park has almost disappeared. According to Kühn, the demolition work should be finally completed at the beginning of the new year.

Whether a swimming pool will be built on the site again in the long term depends on whether all valley communities are willing to jointly finance it.

The neighboring municipalities are “highly motivated”, says Kühn.

But the common bathroom is far from settled.

In order to set an example, Bad Wiessee had designated the area as a special area for sports, leisure, health and recreation in the development plan.

So it is more or less “reserved” for a swimming pool.

Iodine sulfur bath should become better known

Right next door, the municipality's new iodine sulfur bath has been in operation for over two years.

In order to keep it going, the municipality has to churn in large sums, which recently caused criticism in the municipal council.

So where do you want to go next year with the luxurious bathroom?

"The goals are clearly to increase awareness and reduce the deficit," says Kühn.

He is confident that he will be able to report positive developments in a year's time.

Finally, there is the new day-care centre, which is growing rapidly alongside the primary school.

“Here we are right on schedule and on budget,” announces the mayor.

The building should be ready for occupancy by the new kindergarten year of 2024.

No more major new projects

Those responsible are aware that the many construction sites will put an undue burden on the citizens of Bad Wiessee.

During a retreat, the municipal council recently formulated its strategic goals for the future.

The current major projects would be welcomed, it says.

"Beyond that, the measure is full," says Mayor Kühn, reflecting the knowledge gained in the exam.

There was absolute unanimity in the council.
