In Hong Kong, where there are many high-rise buildings, lifts are an essential building services facility for almost every building, and have strict safety requirements. Hong Kong has long faced the problem of insufficient land supply, so the construction of lifts must also take into account how to make the most of the space. Reduce the floor area occupied to increase the usable floor space of the building.

In the early years, Hong Kong introduced the double deck design in the dual lift (Dual Lift), which effectively saved the space occupied by the lift shaft.

In recent years, Hong Kong has introduced an "evolved version" of Twin Deck lifts. The two lifts that share a machine slot can be lifted and lowered separately to further increase the efficiency of use. If it can be extended to different buildings, it is believed that it can provide a solution to the problem of tight land supply. Hong Kong has added a lot of available space options.

The author has also mentioned the problem of different lift equipment in the article in the past. In order to save floor space, in the past, the engineering industry used various methods to reduce the area of the lift shaft. However, as the building continues to grow to high altitudes, it is inevitable to install more lifts To meet the needs of users.

In recent years, many hospitals have been built higher and higher. In order to cope with the huge amount of medical staff, patients, visitors, medical equipment and logistics supplies, more and more hospitals will consider introducing smart delivery elevators when rebuilding or rebuilding floors ( That is, the selection of the destination floor is only made in the elevator lobby, not in individual elevators), providing optimized boarding and landing transportation services for medical staff.

In the past, some buildings in Hong Kong introduced double-deck elevator systems from foreign countries, that is, two connected elevators were installed in the same elevator slot. For example, a high-rise building facing the sea in Wanchai and a large commercial building in Causeway Bay also used this design.

These double-deck lift systems only allow two connected lifts to go up and down at the same time, that is, when the upper lift is raised, the lower lift cannot move down.

Basically, passengers can enter the lower elevators on the ground floor, but only serve even-numbered floors, and passengers on odd-numbered floors have to log in to the upper floor.

There are practical examples showing that this system can transport passengers up to twice as efficiently as traditional designs, and building owners can increase the usable space of buildings by almost a quarter.

In recent years, the double-deck lift has been improved from a double-deck design to a twin-type lift, that is, the upper and lower lifts are not conjoined and do not necessarily move in the same direction during operation, but can be lifted and lowered separately on different floors.

It is known that this design was introduced in a commercial building in the Hong Kong Island area earlier, and twin lifts that can go up and down freely are installed in several lift slots, combined with an intelligent delivery control system or DCS (Destination Control System), According to the needs of users on different floors, it is dispatched to the required floors. It is believed that this is the first time that a commercial building elevator has introduced this system in Hong Kong.

However, this design also has limitations. When the upper elevator is lowered to a lower position, the moving space of the lower elevator is narrowed. If one of the elevators is picking up users, the other elevator may have to stop and wait, and the upper elevator cannot. To deliver users to the ground floor, the operation must cooperate with the DCS intelligent delivery system to achieve success.

Although this intelligent double elevator can bring higher benefits to users and speed up the flow and efficiency of the transportation of people and goods in the entire building, if there are elderly people or people with limited mobility in and out of the building for a long time, consider that they may be using intelligent elevators It may be difficult or not easy to grasp the operation of the DCS intelligent system, so it may be difficult to fully use this system in all buildings.

On the whole, the author believes that this newer double-elevator system, whether it is double-decker or twin-type, can improve the efficiency of the elevator, help reduce the space occupied by the elevator, and increase the usable residential or commercial floor in disguise.

Some high-rise building designs or buildings with narrow floor plan have the potential to introduce such systems, including large shopping malls with high traffic usage and long-term queues in the elevator lobby. This system can also be considered to divert the flow of people and drive the market. internal circulation, and can add value to the building at the same time.

Press: Dual Lift is the name proposed by the author to define its two designs as Double Deck or Twin Deck
