The government is promoting: lightning legislation that will allow the denial of citizenship to terrorists Israel today

2023-01-09T08:13:16.431Z

The coalition did not remain indifferent to the photos from the release celebrations held this week for the terrorist Karim Younes in the territories of Israel.

Does not tolerate delay:

the chairman of the coalition and the chairman of the Knesset committee, Knesset member Ofir Katz, will this morning (Monday) grant an exemption from the obligation to discount the bill to revoke the citizenship of a terrorist operative who receives compensation for committing acts of terrorism.

The goal - to pass the bill through lightning legislation in the next two weeks.

The proposal is intended to create a clear connection between receiving a salary for committing an act of terrorism and the right to citizenship or residency in Israel.

According to the law, a citizen or resident who is proven to have received payment from the Palestinian Authority for committing an act of terrorism, will be considered to have voluntarily renounced his citizenship or residency. This status will be approved by the Minister of the Interior.

In addition, the current legislation proposes to state that a citizen or resident whose status has been revoked in accordance with the law, will be released from prison directly to the territories of the Palestinian Authority.

Along with MK Ofir Katz's bill, identical proposals by MK Simcha Rothman, MK Sharan Hashakal, MK Limor Har Son, MK Oded Porer and others will also be promoted.

The discussion is taking place after this week there were celebrations on the occasion of the release of Karim Younes, the murderer of the late soldier Avraham Bromberg, inside the territories of Israel, together with senior officials of the Palestinian Authority.

Next week, Maher Younes, the second killer in the horrific terrorist attack, is expected to be released.

Knesset member Ofir Katz explained his motives for promoting the law: "The release celebrations we saw this week for a despicable terrorist inside Israeli territory are boiling and stomach-turning. It is unthinkable that the absurd situation will continue in which terrorists carry out terrorist attacks, get paid by the Palestinian Authority and then return to live among us.

"There is broad agreement among most of the factions on advancing the law quickly, and I intend to finalize the important legislation in about two weeks. I thank Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana for his full commitment and MK Rothman for his cooperation in putting the initiative on the agenda."
