The judge of the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court, Christina Hilo Asad, released this morning (Monday) Eyal Cohen, the suspect who attacked Knesset member Ayman Odeh at a rally held near the Tel Aviv Museum on Motzash. At the same time, the judge delayed the release decision at the request of the police.
As we published, the police reported a suspected attack on Knesset member Odeh during a protest near the Tel Aviv Museum.
Following the incident, a 42-year-old resident of Givat Brenner was arrested.
He was brought in for questioning at the end of which it was decided to imprison him and bring him before a judge today.

Odeh wrote after the event that "At the end of my speech tonight against fascism, I was verbally attacked by a group of fascist demonstrators, one of them even attacked me physically and was immediately pushed away by the demonstrators who were around me. These are the results of this dark government against which we demonstrated tonight. Peace be with you and I will not give No one can prevent me from representing the public."
As mentioned, Cohen was brought today for an extension of detention, where the representative of the police, Sergeant Yoni Hirschhorn, said that the suspect had a prior acquaintance with the member of the Knesset. One way or another towards an elected official can cross the agenda," said RNA Hirschhorn.
"This is an act of protest"
After the police representative's words, the suspect said: "Even what is happening in this country in the news that we all live here and we all feel that there are criminals here", and the judge provoked him and said: "The court is not a platform to promote the suspect's agenda", and he answered in response: You don't feel it. I express sorrow and regret. I don't like being here."
At the same time, the suspect's defense attorney, who asked for his release, stated that this is a person who has never been arrested and has no previous convictions.
"It is an act of protest that was not controlled in those moments, but beyond that there is no obsession, he is not looking for Mr. Odeh. He certainly does not identify him as left-wing or something that deserves a response, this is an unfortunate situation and he expresses regret and the investigation can continue regardless of his arrest," said the defense attorney.
In conclusion, Judge Hilo Asad released the suspect.
"The offense committed by the suspect, attacking a public servant against the background of the suspect's different opinions, should not be taken lightly at all. This is a border crossing that has no justification. However, this is not a case that justifies his continued detention behind bars," the judge wrote in her decision, but delayed her decision at the request of the police so that she can file an appeal.
