2023-01-09T17:01:03.376Z

This was the attack by thousands of Bolsonaro supporters and supporters of a military coup against Lula on the country's institutions

Shortly before 3:00 p.m. local time, they arrived at the doors of the Congress.

10 minutes later they entered the Presidential Palace of Planalto.

And not even an hour had passed when they stormed the headquarters of the Supreme Court.

The video that accompanies this news item shows minute by minute the assault on the democratic institutions of Brazil by thousands of supporters of former President Bolsonaro.

The ultras do not recognize the defeat of the leader of the extreme right before Lula in the elections two months ago.

Since then they have been camped out in front of the Army headquarters in Brasilia, demanding that the military stage a coup to overthrow the new president.

They have been evicted this Monday, after they took action this Sunday.

The Bolsonaristas set out in the early hours of the afternoon.

Thousands of them traveled the almost eight kilometers that separate their camp from the headquarters of Congress, the Presidency and the Brazilian Supreme Court.

After overcoming the police barriers that protected them, they assaulted them, starring in scenes reminiscent of the assault on the Capitol that took place in Washington two years ago.

The Police took several hours to regain control of the institutions and evacuate the area.

The video that accompanies this news is a tour of the scenes that took place in the buildings that house the three powers of the country.

Hundreds of stolen documents and weapons, vandalized offices and broken glass.

These are some of the damages caused by the Bolsonaristas during the assault.

Lula decreed federal intervention in the District until the end of the month.

The president assured that he is

an “unprecedented” situation

and that the people involved in this coup attempt "will be punished."

“The Brazilian left has dead people, and a left party has never invaded Congress or the Planalto.

We are going to find out who the financiers of these vandals are, ”he concluded.
