Climatic changes also influence the activities of Freising district fishermen.

The fish suffer from the heat.

And the cost is also a sticking point.

Marzling/district

– On Epiphany, the annual general meeting with new elections for the Freising district fishing association attracted a great deal of interest: around 200 fishermen from the district found their way to Marzling after the compulsory Corona break.

The association itself is in good shape: Stable membership figures and great interest among young people.

However, the fishermen are worried about the climatic changes and the associated overheating of the waters.

On Friday afternoon there was hardly any free space to be found in the Marzlingen school gym - despite the ambitious agenda.

One reason for the high turnout: the new board elections were imminent.

However, because the candidates had already been determined in advance and there were no further suggestions from the ranks, the election was carried out quickly and via acclamation.

Please take rubbish with you: “We want to be role models”

The fishing veteran Günter Wolter, who has been in charge of the association's fortunes since 1999, was again confirmed as the first chairman.

His deputy is Herbert Stein.

Peter Staudinger is also responsible for finances, while Bernd Kneissl took over as secretary from Hans Michael Miller, who died in July 2022.

Harald Berger was also confirmed in office as water warden and Rainer Mühlbauer as youth warden.

According to the board of directors, the association is in a very good position - with 876 members and a constantly growing number of young fishermen.

There is also no reason to complain financially, as Treasurer Staudinger emphasized: the annual expenses of around 220,000 euros could be well covered by income and savings.

Various work services employed the district fishing association in 2022, as Wolter emphasized: The focus here was on cutting bushes on paths and banks, including garbage collection.

His request to the members of the association: "Please take your garbage back with you - we want to be role models."

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

The association also received a relatively large amount of encouragement at the traditional king fishing in September - 75 members tried their luck on the Amper Canal.

With the catch of three carp, total weight 16 kilograms, Günter Paukner became the king of fishermen here again in 2022.

The tone then became more serious when it came to stocking dates, because the planned stocking in August and September caused "great difficulties", as Wolter put it.

The reason: "The fish suffered from the heat wave and the rising water temperatures." The result: The stocking of fish is postponed to cooler months.

Berger then reported something similar in his function as water warden: "From May onwards, the lack of precipitation and the persistent heat caused our water levels to fall sharply.

Our waters also had water temperatures well over 20 degrees.” What was more: “Fishing on the Isar was very difficult due to a high incidence of algae.” The result of the hot summer: “At these temperatures, there is an acute lack of oxygen, especially for our salmonids, which is why the fish stop eating adjust,” explained Berger.

Unfortunately, this critical state did not change until mid-August.

Fish costs are increasing

Another problem is the cost of fish and small fish, as these are increasing and are already higher than the already very high trout prices.

Among other things, 1,680 pike, 400 kilograms of whitefish, 600 zander and 1,600 grayling were stocked.

The result of this year's catch lists: Around 12,200 fish with a total weight of around 8,900 kilograms were caught - according to Berger, significantly fewer than in previous years.

Fishing luck was most frequent on the Amperkanal Zolling with 2005 fish caught, closely followed by the Pullinger See with 1616 pieces and the Isarkanal with 1564 fish on the hook.

What Wolter also noted here: "It's not possible - on Instagram you post a catch of five pike in pulling, but there's nothing in the catch list." Wolter wants to think about an ad if it happens again.
