The 1990s cult comedy "Manta Manta" with Til Schweiger will have a second part in 2023.

A new teaser shows what the film is about.

Update from January 9, 2023, 12:00 p.m .:

In 1991 “Manta Manta” celebrated great success in German cinemas.

However, the cult comedy did not get a sequel.

More than 30 years later, fans can still look forward to a sequel.

Til Schweiger and the production company Constantin Film have now published another teaser on Instagram.

"In 2023 we'll give it a lot of rubber, because from March 30th the long-awaited second part of MANTA MANTA will start in the cinemas," writes the actor under his Instagram post.

Things are already happening in the 45-second teaser, because "Bertie" fears for his workshop and also lets his fists fly.

He also has a solution ready for his financial problems: "We drive the Classic," explains "Bertie" in the teaser.

After all, the winner of the race at Bilster Berg receives 150,000 euros.

As in the original, there is plenty of action both on and off the track.

In addition to Schweiger, many old acquaintances are also returning to their roles in the cult comedy.

Tina Ruland (Uschi) and Michael Kessler (Klausi) are back on board.

Also present are tuners JP Kraemer and Axel Stein, who plays an overwhelmed traffic cop.

And nothing has changed in Bertie's love of cars in "Manta Manta: Second Part" because: "Cars mean freedom.

And I love freedom!”

Update from August 6, 2022, 11:50 a.m .:

The news of the new edition of "Manta, Manta" triggered a huge echo in social media – apparently there are still quite a few fans of the 1990s cult strip.

An additional surprise was only recently made public: YouTube star Jean Pierre "JP" Kraemer (41) will also be in the film.

The Dortmund tuner presented a first taste of his acting skills on Instagram.

But many stars of the first part from 1991 are also back on board – including Michael Kessler (55), Tina Ruland (55) and Til Schweiger (58).

The latter has now revealed some details about "Manta, Manta 2" in an interview.

"Manta, Manta 2": Til Schweiger reveals details about the continuation of the cult comedy

As Til Schweiger explained to "Bild am Sonntag", the character "Bertie" he played in "Manta, Manta 2" now has two children with "Uschi" (Tina Ruland) – but the two are now separated.

Uschi now lives with a successful businessman played by Moritz Bleibtreu (50).

For Bertie, on the other hand – who now runs a second-hand shop, a car repair shop and a go-kart track – things are not going so smoothly: he has lost his driver’s license and has to go to a medical and psychological examination (MPU).

As Schweiger reports, "Manta, Manta 2" contains more "comedy" but at the same time "more feeling" than the first part.

According to the actor, 16,000 people applied to the call for extras for the sequel – people even wrote to him on Instagram who would like to be there.

In order to get in the mood for the shoot, the whole team watched the first "Manta, Manta" part again in the cinema.

First report from May 23, 2022, 3:25 p.m.:

Dortmund – They were once a cult – today they have long been forgotten: At the beginning of the 1990s, manta jokes were very fashionable.

In it, a supposed cliché was made fun of: the drivers were accused of being simple-minded and proletarian in appearance.

In the countless jokes, Manta drivers (usually called “Manni”) always wore cowboy boots (“mantalettes”), were in a relationship with hairdressers, a fox’s tail dangled from the antenna of their souped-up Opel and a “Kenwood” sticker stuck to the rear window.

Even manta films were made: one of the most famous was "Manta Manta" (1991).

A lot of extras are now being sought for a sequel to the cult comedy.

Manta Manta 2: Extras wanted for sequel to cult 1990s comedy

In 1991, two Manta comedies were released in cinemas: "Manta - The Movie" and only a few weeks later "Manta Manta".

In the latter, actor Til Schweiger (58) mimics the proletarian Bertie, whose pride is a powerfully tuned Opel Manta B.

A few years ago, the strikingly painted film Manta was even part of an exhibition in the House of History in Bonn - even if the screen Opel is probably not quite as valuable as, for example, the Porsche from the film "Bad Boys", which was recently auctioned off would.

The sympathy of the fans after the fire of the "Nürburgring-Mantas", which cannot take part in the 24-hour race this year because of the severe damage, shows that the Manta is still a cult for many today.

The manufacturer Opel is meanwhile working on a Manta comeback - but the new Manta is very different from what many fans might have hoped.

In addition to Til Schweiger, the ensemble in "Manta Manta" also included Tina Ruland (55), who played the hairdresser Uschi in the strip, and Michael Kessler (54), who took on the role of Bertie's friend Klausi.

All three actors will be back in Manta Manta 2.

Manta Manta 2”: We are looking for men and women between 6 and 80 years of age

A lot of extras are now being sought for the continuation of the cult comedy.

Men and women between the ages of 6 and 80 from North Rhine-Westphalia can apply.

The possible uses are very different: spectators, press people and a racing team are occupied.

In addition, guests are needed for a beach bar - but they should be between 18 and 45 years old.

Also wanted are male and female DJs, "original hairdressers" and people who can drive karts.

Probably more for the brave: Extras are also needed to have their hair cut in front of the camera.

Shooting will take place from mid-June to early September in Dortmund, Cologne, Dormagen, Mettmann and the Höxter district.

Anyone who is interested can apply on the “manta-casting.de” website by June 16, 2022.
