According to data from the transport service provider Inrix, Bremen is one of the ten major cities in Germany with the heaviest traffic jams.
The Hanseatic city ended up in ninth place in the statistics for 2022.
In traffic jams at peak times, an average commuter in Bremen lost 40 hours last year, the data experts said on Tuesday in Munich.
Munich – According to this count, the conditions in Bremen were still better than in the national leaders Munich (74 hours lost), Berlin (71 hours) and Hamburg (56 hours).
But in 2021 Bremen was still in 13th place with 37 hours lost in traffic jams.
Hanover fell out of the top group of the ten most heavily polluted cities in 2022.
The Bremen Autobahn junction A1/A27 and the bridge over the B6/B75 federal highway over the Weser have always been prone to traffic jams in Bremen.
In addition, there were long-term construction sites on Kurfürstenallee and Schwachhauser Ring last year.
A district heating line is being built and two tram lines are being expanded.
"A large part of the construction measures that led to additional traffic jams in Bremen last year serve to promote the traffic turnaround," commented Transport Senator Maike Schaefer (Greens) on the figures.
"With the district heating project, we are also helping to make Bremen more independent of fossil fuels and thus also of gas supplies from Russia." dpa
