The government clarified today (10th) that children under the age of 3 entering the mainland from Hong Kong must present a nucleic acid certificate.

As for children under the age of 3 coming to Hong Kong from the Mainland or any other region, the HKSAR Government has exempted them from the relevant requirements.

The government stated that according to the joint prevention and control mechanism of the State Council, all people entering the mainland from Hong Kong must present a negative result of the new crown nucleic acid test taken within 48 hours before travel before entering the mainland.

The relevant entry nucleic acid testing requirements do not exempt any category of people, including children under 3 years old.

Therefore, children under the age of 3 who plan to travel north to enter the mainland must also hold a negative nucleic acid test result certificate.

For nucleic acid testing conducted in Hong Kong for travel to the Mainland, the testing should meet the following requirements:

* The test must be carried out within 48 hours before the flight's scheduled departure time (for those entering the Mainland from the airport) or arrival time (for those entering the Mainland from other ports);

* The test samples must be "throat swabs", "nasopharyngeal swabs" swab" or "combined nasal cavity and throat swab"; and

* the test result must be negative, and the relevant report must be from a local medical testing institution (including various issued by community testing centers or testing stations in the district).

Starting today, citizens can bring young children to community testing centers or testing stations in various districts, and professionals will collect "throat swab" samples for young children for related nucleic acid testing at their own expense.

As for children under the age of 3 coming to Hong Kong from the Mainland or any other region, the HKSAR Government has exempted them from the relevant requirements.

In other words, children under the age of 3 coming to Hong Kong from the Mainland do not need to undergo a nucleic acid test before coming to Hong Kong, and they can also come to Hong Kong across the border.
