The Western escalation aimed at fueling the situation in Ukraine continues to record hostile steps by sending more weapons to the Kyiv regime, as the “Sky News” news network revealed that Britain is considering supplying Ukraine with “Challenger 2” combat tanks, in a parallel direction to an American move aimed at sending Stryker armored fighting vehicles.
“Discussions have been underway for a few weeks regarding the delivery of the main battle tank of the British Army, Challenger 2, to Ukraine,” Sky News quoted an unnamed Western source as saying.
The news network considered that such a new move by London is a significant escalation in Western support for Kiev, and could push others in NATO, especially Germany, to go in the same direction and provide combat tanks to Ukraine.
According to reports, Britain could provide Kyiv with 10 Challenger 2 tanks, enough to arm a military division, while the Western source quoted by Sky News considered that this step would not bring about major changes, but it would remain a remarkable move.
In the same context, one day after US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Laura Cooper announced the United States' intention to provide Kyiv with 4,000 Zuni missiles that can be installed on helicopters, the American Politico newspaper revealed today that Washington is considering sending combat armored vehicles of the "Stryker" model. As part of the new military weapons sent to Ukraine.
This comes in the wake of US President Joe Biden's announcement last week that it would send 50 Bradley combat vehicles, which are capable of carrying automatic cannons, machine guns, and "TOW" missiles, to Kyiv.
US State Department spokesman Ned Price did not find it embarrassing to openly declare his country's goal, what he called "changing the current dynamics of the crisis in Ukraine by providing Kyiv with military weapons, including armored vehicles and air defense systems."
"The dynamic that Washington aims to change is to provide $3 billion in so-called additional security assistance to Ukraine, including armored combat vehicles, as well as air defense systems," Price said.
Last Friday, the United States announced the allocation of the largest package of military weapons to Ukraine, which exceeds three billion dollars, to include Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, self-propelled howitzers, armored vehicles, Himars missiles, in addition to other equipment and ammunition.
And the Russian presidential spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, confirmed yesterday that supplying Ukraine with Western weapons will not be able to change anything because it will not hinder the achievement of the objectives of the Russian special military operation to protect Donbass, noting, in the context of his comment on France’s decision to provide Ukraine with military equipment, that “it is not logical.” Speaking only of the French decision, we know that collective Europe, NATO and the United States have already poured tens of billions of dollars into Ukraine through arms supplies.
