Four men and women charged with common assault after scuffle at bus stop by off-duty traffic police

Passers-by saw the situation and called the police. The police arrived and arrested 5 people on suspicion of "assault causing actual bodily harm" and "ordinary assault". The male policeman was suspended afterwards.


Afterwards, the two arrested women in the case were withdrawn due to insufficient evidence. The off-duty male police officer and the other two men (aged between 18 and 29) were each charged with one count of "common assault". He will appear in Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts tomorrow morning (11th).

The police received a report at 2:30 a.m. on the same day that five men and women had a dispute and fight at the bus stop near On Ting Estate on Tuen Mun Rural Committee Road.

The police immediately went to the scene to mediate. After a preliminary investigation, a 29-year-old male off-duty police officer surnamed Li and two couples had an argument on the site, and they suspected that they attacked each other with their hands.

The off-duty male policeman sustained neck, hand, knee and head injuries, and was conscious and sent to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment.

The other four were fine and refused to be sent to the hospital.

The male police officer involved belongs to the Traffic Department of New Territories South Region and has been suspended.

During the incident, 5 people were arrested. Among them, a 25-year-old man surnamed He and an 18-year-old woman surnamed Zhen, an 18-year-old man surnamed He and a 28-year-old woman surnamed Zhang were two couples. They were arrested on suspicion of "causing actual bodily harm due to assault" .

An off-duty male police officer was arrested on suspicion of "common assault".

The case was handed over to the District Crime Squad of Tuen Mun Police for follow-up.

After further investigation and seeking legal advice, officers found that there was not enough evidence to prosecute the two arrested women. Therefore, the two women have been released unconditionally.

The three men were each charged with one count of "common assault". The case will be brought up in Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts tomorrow morning (11th).

The police stated that the police force attaches great importance to the conduct of personnel, and any violation of the law by personnel will not be tolerated or tolerated by the police force, and will be dealt with severely.
