The former king of Greece Constantine II is dead. This is reported by the Greek state media.
Athens - The former and last king of Greece has died.
Constantine II died in Athens on Tuesday at the age of 82.
This is reported by the Greek state radio and the state news agency on Tuesday evening.
After a stroke and severe pneumonia, his health had deteriorated in recent weeks.
According to a media report, Constantine II suffered another stroke on January 7th.
Since then he is said to have been in critical condition.

reports, his two sisters, Princess Irene and Queen Sofia, and his five children living abroad are said to have traveled to Constantine II.

According to information from government circles, Constantine is to be buried in a wooded area of his family's former summer palace in northern Athens.
The so-called royal tombs are located in Tatoi.
Constantine II was the last king of the country.
He was born in Athens in 1940, the only son of King Paul I and Queen Frederika.
With the beginning of the German occupation in 1941, the royal family left Greece and only returned five years later.
In 1947, after his father's enthronement, he was named official heir to the throne.
In 1964, Paul I died suddenly and Constantine was proclaimed the new king of Greece.
Ten years after he ascended the throne as King of the Hellenes in 1964, the monarchy in Greece was abolished by referendum.
Konstantin married the Danish Princess Anna-Maria.
The third daughter of the Danish king Friedrich IX.
in the year of his enthronement, 1964. The couple had five children: Alexia, Pavlos, Nikolaos, Theodora and Filippos.
