Damascus, SANA- Seasonal forecasts, according to current weather maps, indicate that rainfall will be around

Damascus-SANA

Seasonal forecasts, according to current weather maps, indicate that rainfall will be around or below its average and temperatures around or above its average until the end of the forties of winter, according to the head of the Central Weather Forecasting Center in Damascus, Shadi Gawish.

In a statement to SANA, Jawish confirmed that it is not possible to judge the current season, especially since the largest share of precipitation falls in the winter season, in which its percentage is measured between 50 and 55 percent, considering that the precipitation since the beginning of the fall season until now is relatively weak.

Jawish pointed out that it is not expected until mid-February that the country will be affected by polar air masses of snow-laden origin, stressing the importance of these precipitations on the mountain heights because they are the largest source of groundwater and the main springs that are fed from the snow of the mountains.

And Jawish indicated that the fog that large areas of the country are currently witnessing, especially during the early morning and night hours, is caused by the temperature difference between day and night, coinciding with the winter solstice, the short time of the day in relation to the night, and the density of water vapor with the continuation of the extension of the Red Sea depression, which carries with it warm tropical currents. Relatively saturated with moisture, as warm air has a greater ability to hold water vapor than cold air.

Regarding the reasons for changing weather patterns, Jawish explained that global climate change has led to a change in weather patterns, and the emergence of extreme patterns that have not occurred previously. Significant negative factors, including changes in the weather, lack of rain and exacerbation of water shortages, in addition to increasing the risk of environmental drought.
