An Iranian judiciary has sentenced a man to death for his alleged involvement in the protests sparked by the death in custody of the young Mahsa Amini, the judicial authority organ Mizan Online reported on Tuesday (January 10th).

The court sentenced Javad Rouhi to death in particular for "

corruption on earth

", "

apostasy by desecration of the Koran by burning

it " and "

destruction and burning of public property

", he said.

This death sentence brings to 18 the number of people sentenced to death in connection with the protest, according to a count established by AFP from official announcements.

Among them, four were executed, sparking an international outcry.

“The leader of a group of rioters”

Authorities generally refer to the protests as "

riots

" encouraged by countries and organizations hostile to Iran.

Javad Rouhi, whose age has not been specified, was convicted of having been "

the leader of a group of rioters

" in Noshahr (north) and of having "

incited and encouraged the citizens to riot

", asserted Mizan Online.

This decision can be "

subject to appeal to the Supreme Court

", specifies the agency.

In early January, the Supreme Court upheld the death sentences of two men in connection with the protests.

They therefore no longer have any recourse and can be executed at any time.

For this daily, he had conducted interviews in recent weeks with families of prisoners sentenced to death in connection with the demonstrations.
