A bitter war has been raging in Ukraine for more than ten months.

A former NATO chief expects serious negotiations this year.

New York - In the Ukraine war, Russia is fighting with high losses.

Even outside the war zone, President Vladimir Putin's country has to deal with a wide variety of problems.

Experts see Russia increasingly isolated on the world stage.

Former NATO chief James Stavridis believes Russian forces in the Ukraine conflict will be "eloped and exhausted" by the end of winter.

Stavridis said so in an interview with New York radio station

"But I don't see a breakthrough on either side - at least not this winter," said Stavridis.

"Unfortunately, the first chance for a negotiation in the Ukraine war will be after the winter.

The Russians will be eloped and exhausted from losing so many men and equipment.”

Stavridis suspects that both warring parties will push for negotiations in the second half of this year.

"On the Ukrainian side, Western pressure to avoid further costs will become significant," Stavridis added.

“If I add it all up, there will be more wars.

The Ukrainians win on the ground.

The Russians are winning in the air.”

The US Congress passed a funding package last month.

45 billion dollars went to Ukraine and allied NATO partners.

There was also criticism of the financial aid given to Ukraine and its President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
