More than two and a half years after it was introduced, the obligation to wear a mask on local buses and trains in Saxony will end on Monday next week (January 16).
The cabinet has agreed on this, said Health Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) on Tuesday in Dresden.
The obligation to isolate after a corona infection, on the other hand, was not initially lifted.
Dresden – The new regulation is valid until April 7th.
Köpping still advocates wearing a mask voluntarily.
In three federal states, the mask is no longer mandatory in local public transport: in Bavaria, Saxony-Anhalt and also in Schleswig-Holstein since New Year's Day.
Saxony was the first federal state to make masks compulsory on public transport and when shopping after the outbreak of the corona pandemic.
The federal states themselves decide whether masks are compulsory in buses and trains in local transport. For long-distance trains and long-distance buses, an FFP2 mask requirement is still stipulated nationwide.
