Ten documents including materials on Ukraine, Great Britain and Iran were found in a locked cabinet in the office held by the president in 2017-2020 at a research institute in Washington. The documents have been turned over to the National Archives, Biden's lawyer said. Trump responded: "When will the FBI raid the White House or Biden's homes?"

The US Department of Justice is examining apparently confidential documents found in President Joe Biden's former office at a research institute, according to a White House report tonight (Tuesday).

Ten documents were found in a locked cabinet at the Penn Biden Center in Washington in November by Biden's legal team, his lawyer said.

They were transferred to the National Archives.

The documents date from 2013 to 2016, according to the source, and they include, among other things, American intelligence memos and briefing materials that covered topics including Ukraine, Iran and the United Kingdom.

They were found in several boxes that also contained unclassified papers that fall under the Presidential Records Act, the source said.

Also, most of the documents in the boxes contained personal documents of the Biden family, including materials on the funeral arrangements of Beau Biden and letters of condolence, according to a source of the CNN news agency.

The documents were discovered already on November 2nd, only six days before the mid-term elections, but the issue was only made public on Monday due to news reports.

An investigation has been opened regarding confidential documents that Biden's predecessor in office, former President Donald Trump, took from the White House to his estate in Florida at the end of his term.

According to a CBS News report, the FBI is involved in examining the documents found at the research institute, and Attorney General Rick Garland has been asked to review them.

A source close to the matter told CBS News that the documents do not contain nuclear secrets and were stored in a folder inside a box with other unclassified documents.

Richard Sober, a special counsel to President Biden, said in a statement to CBS that the documents were discovered before the midterm elections in November by the president's lawyers while they were clearing out the office.

Biden held an office at the research institute, which is about a mile from the White House in 2020-2017.

According to Sober, "Since the discovery of the documents, the president's private lawyers have been cooperating with the National Archives and the Department of Justice to ensure that all documents from the Obama-Biden era are properly archived."

Trump responded to the news yesterday on his social platform site, Truth Social: "When is the FBI getting ready to raid Joe Biden's many homes, maybe even the White House?"

Biden's documents were discovered shortly before the Justice Department announced that it would appoint an independent counsel to determine whether to criminally indict Trump over the documents found at his estate.

Congressman James Comer, the new Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said the handling of the Biden documents raises questions about the Justice Department's neutrality. , certainly in the way you treat a former president versus a sitting president."

In September, President Biden appeared on CBS and was asked about the documents Trump took from the White House. He then wondered, "How could someone be so irresponsible?"
