Soledar in Donbass.
The small town has become the center of the heaviest fighting in Donbass, according to these images released by the Ukrainian armed forces.
Soledar is 15 kilometers from Bakhmut - the industrial city that the Russian invading troops have been trying to take for five months without success.
Apparently they now want to break through the Ukrainian positions near Soledar.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy: "It is extremely difficult, there is almost no intact wall there anymore. Thanks to the resilience of our soldiers in Soledar, we gained additional time and additional strength for Ukraine. And what did Russia want to gain there? Everything is completely destroyed, there is almost no life."
These people from Soledar managed to save their lives at the last moment and escape from the frontline town.
They are now housed in an emergency shelter in Kramatorsk.
Olha, a pensioner who fled Soledar: "We survived by hiding in different apartments on the first floor. When tanks fired and one apartment was destroyed, we moved to another. When it became unbearable, we left. I would have earlier gone, but I couldn't."
The refugees are now being taken to the safer western part of the country in a special train.
The soldiers are holding out in the region around Bakhmut.
The snow now helps them in the fight against the Russian attackers in winter.
Heorhii, Soldier: "In the cold season, when there is snow, the camouflage is visible. As are the roads and trails used to store supplies and ammunition. At night, when it's warm, the silhouettes are through thermal imaging and drones visible."
Because of the current weather conditions, the Russian military is trying to hide its movements on the front line, larger offensives are not possible.
Yet there are attacks every day.
Kyiv sent reinforcements to the contested region, according to the British Ministry of Defense, the Ukrainian positions and supply lines there are stable.
