A mechanic from Syria had made friends with a wealthy widow from Obermenzing.

He is said to have murdered her in January 2022 out of greed.

The trial at the regional court will start on Thursday.

Munich – Her husband had died years ago, Katrin F. (72) lived alone from then on in Münchhausenstraße – a chic glass building in Obermenzing.

During a workshop visit in March 2020, the wealthy widow accidentally met a young man when she was having her Mini Cooper repaired: Ahmed H. (34).

He worked there as a painter - and later became her killer.

At least that's how the Munich I public prosecutor sees it, who had already accused the Syrian of murder in August.

He is said to have killed the widow out of greed to enrich himself.

Ahmed H. is said to have been heavily in debt.

He initially helped Katrin F. in everyday life, according to the public prosecutor's office, he also sometimes stayed with the pensioner.

She in turn gave him generous gifts and also supported him financially in a very significant way.

At the beginning of 2022, the widow gave the Syrian a second key to her apartment and even gave him the code for her safe, in which she kept expensive watches and jewelry.

Munich: Rich widows wanted to adopt Syrians – did he kill them out of greed?

According to the investigation, the widow also wanted to adopt Ahmed H., which is documented by a corresponding letter.

In a will dated August 2021, she is said to have named him the sole heir.

"He was like a son to her," says Anne Leiding, spokeswoman for the Munich I public prosecutor's office. At the weekend, Ahmed H. commuted to Dortmund, where his partner and two children lived.

However, he had problems professionally.

Did that lead to the momentous act?

A neighbor discovered the dead widow through the window on January 10, 2022 - covered with puncture wounds.

The autopsy revealed wounds on his neck and chest.

The process now has to show whether Ahmed H. is the murderer.

He was arrested on January 23 and has been in custody ever since.

The district court has scheduled a total of 15 days of hearings until March 15 for the process.
