Viewing vaccination documents instead of tracing contacts: the tasks of the “contact tracing team”

The district's "contact tracing team" still has 18 employees, their tasks are changing - especially since almost all corona restrictions have been lifted.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen

– The so-called contact tracing teams in all districts were an important pillar in the fight against the pandemic.

The around 70 to 80 employees at the Tölz health department who were specially employed at peak times kept in touch with the infected, explained them about isolation rules, but also asked about the course of the corona disease.

Others in the team called the infected person's contacts to inform them of possible contamination and the quarantine restrictions that apply to them.

CCT employees in the Tölzer district: employment contracts run until the end of June

Almost all corona restrictions have now been lifted – even the obligation to isolate infected people.

But the CTT - the employees are employed by the Free State and are also paid by it - is still in use.

"The CTT currently has 18 employees, who are spread over 14 positions," reports district office spokeswoman Sabine Schmid on request.

All have fixed-term contracts until June 30th.

In fact, the Free State would even finance up to 30 full-time positions in this area.

But "we have been steadily reducing the workforce for the past six months," says Schmid.

"Because the work became less when the obligation to isolate was no longer required."

However, certain CTT capacities are still necessary in the health authorities, since there are still corona cases.

In the meantime, the forces can be “used in a relatively versatile manner in the health authorities,” explains Schmid.

"For us, that means that they are currently working in the test center, on the telephone or in the antechamber." After the two vaccination centers were closed at the end of last year, all the documents would also have to be viewed, merged and sorted alphabetically, "so that we can answer any questions to respond quickly to citizens.

We urgently need the CTT forces for this.

Until now, everything was filed on a daily basis,” says Schmid.

Capacities of the CCT employees are still needed in the health department

In the CTT, people from very different sectors worked together.

Many previously worked in areas where there were major restrictions due to Corona.

However, when the conditions are lifted, many return to their traditional jobs.

"It was important to us, as far as possible, to enable the employees to make the transition to new fields of activity without any complications, for example through termination agreements," says Schmid.

However, some remain with the district office.

"What made me particularly happy is that we were able to transfer two people to vacant permanent positions in the health department and two more were given the opportunity to work in other departments of the district office," reports the spokeswoman for the authorities.

In addition, positions for technical support staff have been created in the health department, which can be filled by employees who have the appropriate qualifications.

These are initially limited to the end of 2023.
