Because the warm jet stream brings one storm after another to the country.
Weather in January: rain record and hurricane gusts up to 140 km/h

With five to nine degrees, cloudy skies and some rain in the west of the country, the sky is sunless but fairly calm.
On Wednesday the temperature will rise by two to four degrees, the clouds remain, the weather is picking up from the west and rain and wind are slowly picking up.
Over the next two days, the weather will steadily increase in severity until it reaches its peak by the weekend at the latest.

In addition to temperatures between five and eleven degrees and "a lot of rain", storms and hurricanes are to be expected, at high altitudes with up to 140 km/h.
In the lower regions, things are only slightly more relaxed.
A strong storm is moving across the north and east at up to 100 km/h. "It's going to be pretty rough," says Jung.
In the west and southwest, in addition to gusts of wind, 100 liters of rain per square meter are expected by Sunday.
The forecast amounts of precipitation are said to exceed the previous average by three times.

Storm and rain continue - triple rainfall expected
The trend of storm and rain should continue for the next six days.
There is a high potential for flooding.
Especially on the Rhine and its tributaries, one would have to be prepared for large amounts of water.
According to the calculations of the US weather model, up to 240 liters per square meter can be expected in the west and south of the Federal Republic in the next two weeks.
"In some places, that would be almost three times the normal January amount," emphasizes meteorologist Jung.
While winter sports enthusiasts are thankful for every flake of snow falling from the sky, the precipitation hardly improves the bad season.
According to Jung, some snow is possible, but probably only above 1,000 meters.
And the amount should be rather meager.
A return of winter is not to be expected for the time being.
