"Cata" Domínguez, Mexican soccer player, apologizes for a children's party for his son with a theme alluding to an armed group

Julio César Domínguez, a Cruz Azul player from Mexico, apologized for having organized and disseminated on social networks details of a birthday party for his 12-year-old son with a theme alluding to an armed group.

In the photographs that circulated on social networks, a group of children can be seen carrying what appear to be toy weapons, some wear hoods and others have caps with the word "Chapiza" and the initials "JGL" that coincide with those of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, aka El Chapo.

The celebration occurred a few days after the recapture in the Mexican state of Sinaloa of Ovidio Guzmán, son of drug trafficker Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán who is being held in a maximum security prison in Florence, Colorado, United States.

The recapture of Ovidio Guzmán left 29 dead, including 10 soldiers.

"Through this medium, I offer a sincere apology for the images disseminated on my social networks in relation to a children's party," says the statement published by the soccer player on his social networks.

Domínguez, 35, who has been a member of the national team, said he recognized that these images do not contribute to creating a better impression of Mexico.

And he added that "neither I nor my family promote or justify any type of violence."

In a joint statement, the boards of Cruz Azul and Liga MX condemned the facts and anticipated that they will provide the player with support, training and awareness "in relation to this delicate issue."

The club assured that from the first moment it took preventive and corrective measures to resolve this situation and prevent it from happening again, although it did not clarify what type of measures it was referring to.
