The Weilheim-Schongau GmbH hospital had feared a wave of layoffs if no central hospital was built.

But so far there's enough staff - also thanks to the "Springer".

District

– One of the main arguments of the Hospital Weilheim-Schongau GmbH against the referendum on the future of the hospital was the concern that if no new central hospital is built, the employees would leave the company in droves due to a lack of future prospects.

Now that a month has passed since the referendum, this fear has proven to be largely unfounded.

“We have not detected any withdrawal movements.

On the contrary: many interested parties from the nursing sector apply to us," reported nursing director Anne Ertel yesterday at the request of the local newspaper.

Enough staff available

In contrast to most other hospitals, every single bed that is available can also be occupied because there are enough nursing staff to ensure care.

Ertel's deputy Sandra Buchner said: "The mood is good, the people are calm and focused on their work." Both rejected reports that eight employees in one station had resigned at the same time: "It's just not true what the rumors are floating around. "

Instead, you are still gaining additional staff, says Buchner.

"We just hired a nurse from Lübeck who found us via the internet," she reported.

The entire application process took place via WhatsApp.

Springer shifts introduced

This flexibility pays off when recruiting nurses.

"We just don't send anyone away, we just look at how we can organize it in such a way that the applicant can balance work and private life," says Buchner.

That's why so-called "spare shifts" have now been introduced, with employees deployed flexibly where there is a need.

In these spare shifts, it is also possible to only work half a shift if you don't have more time because you have to take care of the children, Buchner continues.

Otherwise, the plan for 2023 was to inform employees even more intensively than before in view of the uncertain situation.

"We rely on complete transparency," says Ertel.

Be it in questions of the Lauterbach reform for hospital financing or the future development of the Hospital Weilheim-Schongau GmbH.

"However, we are in a state of limbo right now," says the nursing director.

You have to wait and see what the district council decides to see how things can go on in concrete terms.
