The Second Criminal Chamber of the Departmental Court of Justice of La Paz, Bolivia, suspended this Wednesday the appeal hearing of the governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho, arrested on December 28 for his alleged participation in alleged crimes that are being investigated in the "Coup d'état I" case, of which he has declared his innocence.

Camacho's defense has requested that the prominent opposition leader be tried in freedom.

However, the appearance could not continue due to a challenge filed by the plaintiffs.

During the installation of the hearing, which occurred in virtual mode, the departmental leader could be seen on camera.

Camacho is being held in the Chonchocoro prison, in the city of La Paz.

The "Coup d'état I" case refers to the political and social crisis that followed the 2019 elections, when a coup d'état was allegedly planned against the government of then-president Evo Morales.

On December 30, a court in La Paz decided to order four months of preventive detention against Camacho.

During the court session at that time, Camacho said that it is a fight for democracy that he represents and called on the Bolivian people to prevent the current government of Bolivia from becoming a dictatorship like that of Venezuela and Cuba.
