Ahead of the opposition activists' demonstration on Saturday night: Minister of National Security MK Itamar Ben Gabir sent a letter today (Wednesday) to the legal adviser to the government, attorney Gali Beharve-Miara, demanding that she authorize the police to enforce the waving of PLO flags.
In a letter the contents of which reached Israel Hayom, Minister Ben Gabir addressed the Ombudsman following a discussion held yesterday between him and the Commissioner and other senior police officers, regarding preparations for a demonstration to be held this coming Saturday night in the Hamima square in Tel Aviv.
"First," writes Ben Gvir, "I will start by saying that the freedom of demonstration is a fundamental value in democracy, and is dear to all of us. At the same time, my position is that it is important that the police act equally between demonstrators, ultra-Orthodox or Arab, left-wing or right-wing, religious or secular."
However, according to him, during the discussion, the issue of flying PLO flags came up and the decisions made on the issue prevent the police from enforcing the demand of the Minister of National Security. Mainly about the change in relations between the State of Israel and the PLO from a political point of view."
Ben Gvir adds that it is also appropriate to take into account the fact that "the declaration of the PLO as a terrorist organization was never canceled and not for nothing.

As part of last week's demonstration, two separate marches took place towards the Tel Aviv Museum plaza, one by the organization Standing Together, which focused the protest on issues of discrimination against minorities, and the other by organizations that were happy about the legal reform and marched with torches.
Due to the march, the police had to block some of the roads in Kaplan and Ibn Gvirol streets.
Ben Gabir addressed the letter to the lawyer in Harav-Miara and added, "As you probably know, the organization finances terrorists who murdered Jews, and glorifies martyrs, among other things, by naming squares after them.
But furthermore, the members of the organization are directly involved in terrorist activities."
Under these circumstances, Ben Gabir concludes his letter "and since your position is important to me, I would like to schedule an urgent meeting as soon as possible before the aforementioned demonstration and hear your position on the matter.
I have no doubt that you also see events of incitement and rebellion against the state as calls for the murder of soldiers;
naming squares after terrorists;
and financing terrorists - as very serious that must be taken into account."
