C&A is closing branches again – which locations in Germany are affected?

In 2023, C&A will have to close branches again.

Several locations in Germany are also affected.

There is a major restructuring behind it.

Cologne – With the rise of online shopping, shopping in stores is becoming more and more shaky.

For years, a number of chains have had to close rows of locations.

Fashion giant C&A is not spared either.

After 13 locations in Germany were already closed in 2022, further closures will follow in 2023.

The company confirmed this when asked by 24RHEIN.

It seems that in 2023 it will primarily affect C&A locations in northern Germany.

"The reports about the closures in Kiel, Rendsburg and Elmshorn are correct.

As part of regular analyses, C&A came to the decision to close these branches," says spokeswoman Claudia Junge about 24RHEIN.

All branches mentioned are in Schleswig-Holstein.

The company did not want to give exact reasons or further details.

"Please understand that we do not release any data on employees and precise information or background information about the store closure."

Is C&A also planning to close branches in NRW?

But what about North Rhine-Westphalia and in particular the C&A locations in Cologne or Düsseldorf?

"Branch offices in Cologne and Düsseldorf are not affected by closures or are currently planned," explains Junge.

Meanwhile, C&A did not comment specifically on other NRW branches.

The situation is similar in other federal states, because the C&A branches in Göttingen and Duderstadt are also to be retained, reports the

C&A: Over 400 locations in Germany and almost 100 in NRW

C&A currently operates around 1,300 branches across Europe.

With 409 locations, almost a third is in Germany, of which 95 are located in NRW.

While the fashion company operates two branches in Düsseldorf, there are four stores in Cologne.

C&A also has several locations in Bonn, Dortmund, Wuppertal, Neuss, Bochum and Oberhausen.

In addition to some closures, modernizations are also part of the long-term restructuring of C&A.

"In the past 18 months, C&A has modernized more than 730 branches across Europe," spokeswoman Claudia Junge told 24RHEIN.

Despite the closures, the fashion company would continue to invest in the remaining stores "to optimize the shopping experience of our customers".

So it seems that C&A will not see the big wave of closures in the near future.

The situation is different with other large shopping companies.

More than 90 branches of Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof are threatened to close, and Primark and Görtz are also currently closing branches.
