The criminal court of Créteil sentenced this Wednesday, January 11 for corruption a former director of detention of the prison of Fresnes to four years of imprisonment and the former businessman Arnaud Mimran, former resident of the establishment, to two years in prison.

Then head of division 3 of the penitentiary center of Fresnes (Val-de-Marne), the guard Khalid El Khal, 53, was found guilty of passive corruption and criminal association for having received money in exchange for benefits granted to three prison inmates from January 2016 to March 2018, including the highly publicized Arnaud Mimran.

Khalid El Khal was sentenced to four years' imprisonment with a deferred committal order, which means that the former official will receive a summons from the prosecutor later regarding his incarceration.

The court also ordered a permanent ban from public service and the confiscation of the sums seized.

Other favorable detention regimes

In addition to Arnaud Mimran, Fabrice Touil, another actor in the carbon tax scam, was sentenced by the court to four years' imprisonment with an arrest warrant for having benefited, against payment, from a favorable detention regime during his stay in Fresnes.

He was absent for the entire trial in November.

The third detainee, Eric Robic, a Frenchman who killed an Israeli woman in Tel Aviv in 2011 in a car accident before fleeing, was released.
