The areas cultivated with the wheat crop in Tartous governorate, since the beginning of the agricultural season until now, have reached 13468 hectares.

In a statement to SANA reporter today, the head of the Plant Production Department at the Tartous Agricultural Directorate, Eng. Muhammad Hassan, explained that the demand for wheat cultivation was good, as the areas cultivated with wheat exceeded the planned plan, which amounted to 12,086 hectares, while the area cultivated with barley amounted to 487 hectares.

Hassan stated that all agricultural requirements are available in terms of seeds, fuel “diesel” and fertilizers “nitrogen”. In addition, 500 kg of wheat seed was provided according to the personal identity or the quantity needed to cultivate the area according to the agricultural organization, adding: “The cultivation of the crop in Tartous governorate began in The month of November, and favorable weather conditions helped, as its cultivation was concentrated in all regions of the governorate.

Hassan referred to the role of extension units in helping farmers organize lists, encourage farmers to plant, and prepare schedules for diesel needs, in cooperation with agricultural associations, as well as granting agricultural organization to obtain production requirements.

He indicated that the area cultivated with legumes amounted to 53.14 hectares, while the area cultivated with winter vegetables reached 1554 hectares.
